Things i've learnt about myself

I am no stranger to those 20 things I’ve learnt in 20 years post but this one is definitely more focused on the last year to two years or so. I suppose once I finish uni, I will do a more in depth post about my experiences and a whole series on uni stuff but I really think this place has taught be a lot of valuable lessons about myself, ones that have completely changed my outlook on myself and life ahead of me.

1. University really isn’t for me – I feel like I have to explain myself on this because it’s not that I don’t love uni, the way my course is structured really doesn’t bode well with how I like to work. My deadlines fall at the end of the term so it means I do fuck all for like 3 months, do about 2 weeks of solid work and that’s it. As someone who loves to be busy, this, as you can imagine, leaves me many days to just sit in bed and watch the day pass by. Plus, the whole dynamic of university is odd. Think about it, living in a bubble of a bunch of same aged students and forced to make it work almost, life really isn’t like that and if uni is supposed to prepare you for real life, this couldn’t be further from the truth

2. I have a really good work ethic – I don’t know how much I have spoken about my internship in china but as the first 4 weeks of it showed me, if I am given a task, I will give it my all and I will work and work until no more can be done. That was also the case for my second internship and I was actually complimented on that in the end. I always feel that saying I have a good work ethic is something I write on my CV just to get hired, but its an actual fact, and I can prove that

3. Following on from that, I always deserve respect. Respect is a two-way street. You want respect, that has to be earned. You show me respect I will show you respect. Simple right. Funnily enough, people don’t seem to get that, and you should NEVER accept anything less that that. I got less that respect at my internship and it made me feel like shit and made me apologetic for absolutely nothing. Now that doesn’t me you go all cold hearted to get this entitled respect because if you deserve it, you will get it. Don’t force it. Always be kind and respectful and give everything your all.

4. I know what it means to be happy – this is probably just me, but I have always wondered what it means to actually be happy like what does that feel like. Without even realising, I know what that it. I feel it in my gut; when something feels good and when something feels wrong. With this, it means I have complete power over making myself happy and that is one of the most liberating feelings ever

5. I am an ambivert – I don’t know why it took me until now to figure this out but an ambivert is who I am. I am very much an introverted person, more of a homebody than a let’s go out and get drinks but when I do go out, that’s when that part of me is unlocked and released. And that’s because I have a balance of introvert and extrovert features in my personality. Although I have this balance, I think its more like 60/40 or 70/30, more being introverted but this has just explained why I am the way I am on so many nights out, dinners, etc.

Items worn
Jacket – ASOS
Hoodie – H&M
Jeans – DON’T BUY THESE THEY SUCK!
Scarf – zara sale recently check in store

So those are some of the most important lessons I have learnt about myself recently. I think every day, we learn something new about ourselves. Sometimes I think it can take a little while longer in our heads but hey, its taken me nearly 21 years to figure this out, what will I figure out in the next 21?

The Hair and The Turtle Neck

Firstly can I just say I am pretty proud I came up with that little play on words for the title of this post on a long and dreary bus journey to school. The best blog post ideas and titles really do come at the weirdest times. I am pretty sure I made an amazed look on my face when I thought of it but a little public embarrassment was worth it for this post.

Today I thought I would share with you some of my go to up do’s/out of the face hair styles that subsequently go awesomely with my newest purchase of this grey turtle neck jumper. I am definitely not one to be adventurous with my hairstyles so it may lack it in that sense but hey, when you have limited time to get ready in the mornings, these can be a time saver. But not to forget with a top like this, I think my hair looks better with it out of the way to draw attention to not only the hair but the neck of the jumper.

Pigtail braids: sporty and chic

This is as adventurous as it is gonna get I’m afraid but I get a strong Tumblr vibe from this look. Braids are a great way to add some intricate yet subtle details to what could be a plain outfit. And better yet this look can even keep the baby hairs away.

The donut: smart and casual

This is definitely one that I would be happy to leave the house in but also one that will magically appear on the top of my head when I am in work mode. Its definitely a favourite amongst the top knot/donut family because it is quick but looks different every time.

 Ponytail: simple yet effortless

This one is so simple that it probably shouldn’t be allowed in this post but for the uncooperating hair days right? With a varation of ponytail looks these days, the messy one is definitely for me. But try a more slicked back look for a more transferable day to night look

 The butterfly: with a twist

This one is almost princess sounding but I promise you it derived from the top knot/messy bun family. Simply create a ponytail but on the last loop, don’t pull it all the way through. Split the half ponytail in well half and pin each side down and in place. My explanations do not come close to the simplicity of seeing it in a youtube video so I hope this one helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu5zYf09EdU

So there you have it. Four hairstyles, one turtleneck. Pretty simple if I do say so myself as I am no hair goddess.

Tell me some of your favourite top and hair combos below!

Through a lens #1 | Holy Chic

It is finally the return of one of my favourite posts to do. My week through a lens, and although my weeks are never that particularly interesting, I enjoy the challenge of trying to find a small(ish) number of pictures to detail my week to you :)

1. I am now calling myself a certified chef. I tried my hand at some French toast which tasted way better than it looked and I made a spinach omelette with toast. Yum!

2. I finally made it to my 5000 word count for my EPQ and it honestly was a very joyous moment for me

3. I am just forever waiting at the bus stop. Sometimes my bus just takes too long to come

4. For some reason, I had the urge to rewatch 90210 and I am just loving every second of it. It feels like I have never watched it before

5. The chunky knit scarf came out because it’s getting too cold for my liking but also, sneak peek from an outfit post coming soon J scarf: new look ring: Primark Hoodie: Primark

I’ve come to realise as this post draws to a close that me weeks are pretty darn boring and I honestly thought I had more pictures. But fear not, some pictures had to be excluded for up and coming posts.

Tell me something you did this week below :)

Have a great day

Wishlist #1 | Holy Chic

This is most definitely not the first wishlist I have done but let’s just pretend it is. One of the hardest things in life I think is waiting for a cheque to clear in the bank and this is where wishlists come into action. With school fast approaching and the tears rolling down my face, I thought I would put together a few items I would be sure to pick up on my next shopping trip yet also things I thought are great basics for back to school.

H&M Handbag /  H&M Chain Necklace / H&M Mickey Necklace / H&M Straight Cut Jeans / H&M Sneakers /  H&M Textured Skirt  / Select Leather Jacket / New Look Chelsea Boot / New Look Gingham Dress / H&M Jersey Top / H&M Oversized Tee / Topshop Leigh Jeans

It’s not a lot but for me it is all about simplicity. I try to go for low key colours so they go with everything. A pair of jeans, top and some sneakers are pretty much what I wear on a daily basis. Some dainty jewellery pieces to accessories with, a jacket for the ever changing weather and a school bag. (p.s. I already own this bag but because I love it so much, I am soo buying it again). And finally a dress/skirt and boots for any events I may need to look more presentable for at school.

So stop dreading the fact that school is fast approaching and start thinking about the fact that you have cute clothes to wear J

Have a great day
