Trial and tell #001

This is a little series I came up with at precisely 2am. Sometimes inspiration just has to disturb your sleep. But I have now made this figment of my imagination a little spectacle, so enjoy.

This is basically how it is gonna work. I test out a few things and then tell you my thoughts on them. And then in the comments if you have tried any of these out, tell me your thoughts below or any recommendations.

Simple micellar cleansing water – once one micellar water runs out, you really have to get another one. On a bit of a tight budget, I found this one on offer in Superdrug and I really do like it. It’s soft (if water can even be soft) and gentle on the skin and does the job pretty darn well. I owe you an apology Garnier micellar water but I will resume using you shortly

Skin therapy eye makeup remover – a wilko own brand product that I was eager to try as the Nivea double effects eye makeup remover was not on offer. I wasn’t expecting a lot as it was only 75p but for such a bargain, it does a hella good job. It’s not as good as the Nivea one from what I can remember, but it removes my eye makeup. A label that speaks the truth

P.S anti frizz serum – I felt like a magpie when I saw Primark had a haircare range to. Boy was I out of the loop about Primark new releases. I thought this would be a cheaper alternative to a Moroccan/argan oil type thing or at least along the same lines. Yeah, I was wrong. This just wasn’t for my hair or its texture. Not a winner for me. It left my hair feeling just loaded with product

Rimmel stay matte primer – not too long ago, I did a whole post about primers but none of them seem to work for me. And I can’t even say this one works 100% but 98% is as close as its going to get, ever, I think. It has its ups and downs with me and I may soon give up on primers. I won’t spoil it too much for you as there will be a post coming but let’s just say it is the weirdest things that we grow to love

Skin therapy eye gel – another wilko product I came home with. I wasn’t expecting anything amazing again because it was like 75p and I have never really found an amazing eye gel but this has been nice in the mornings on my puffy eyes

Argan oil night repair serum – the packaging of this bears a resemblance to the Estee Lauder night repair serum and well, when its only 99p, you really have to give it a try. I am big fan of their hair products but this serum really didn’t do much for me. I think it is just a little too greasy for the night time personally and it kind of just stayed on the surface of my skin. My face isn’t a product playground thanks

And that is all of this post. I had fun writing it and I will be sure to make this a regularity on the blog if you fancy. I have written this in the back seat of a car and I think I should try and get 40 winks. Do any of you know that phrase?

Have a great week

p.s. Wilko have AMAZING things in there that are incredibly cheap. Go have a browse

Ooh but guess what, I believe I have just uploaded a new YouTube video. You can check it out here if you would like to

The Round Up series : Eyeliner | Holy Chic

Something new for the blog today! J

I thought I would start this mini round up series and today is eyeliner so I will show you my eyeliner collection I guess or at least the ones I would use. So, let’s begin J

1.       The eyeko eyeliners: I have paired these two together as I have the black and nave one and as I am pretty sure the entire world everyone knows that they were a free gift in the glamour magazine. And I have to say, I don’t like it that ,much. It is a very dry formula and may just dry out half way through doing your winged eyeliner. So, it’s a no from me

2.       Next is the P.S love felt eyeliner and this is another disappointment. It swatches a really intense black but on the lids, it’s like a grey colour and disappears in like 5 mins

3.       Next is the Miss Sporty brown eyeliner which doesn’t have the greatest lasting power but, its softens the eye look and gives off a more natural look

4.       I also own the Maybelline master precise eyeliner which I rave about which I still love to this day because you have precision and control. But over time the trip will dry out but not the base which is a bummer

5.       Model and Co eyeliner with the sharpener as the lid again doesn’t have the greatest lasting power but it’s on for a good amount of time and I like it J

6.       And the last two I guess work with an angled eyeliner brush. The MUA matte black eyeshadow will give a softer smokey look but the Maybelline eyestudio gel liner with give a bolder look

So there is my eyeliner collection and I think it’s good to have a mix of good and bad items. Variation right?

Have you tried any of these out? Let me know your thoughts on them in the comments below J

It was definitely time for me to go back to blogging basics and throwback with a favourites post. We are already 6 months into the year which is ridonkulous but I thought I would go through my beauty favourites of the past 6 months. I will try and keep this as text little (is that even right) as possible so I don’t bore you. I will explain myself for each product in 5 words J

Cocoa butter: light, moisturising, leaves skin feeling smooth

Nspa instant blur primer: oil based, slightly dry but an amazing primer

Garnier under eye roll on: refreshes eye particularly in the morning, reduces puffiness, I look more awake

E45 cream: helped out with problem areas, very thick and greasy all over but works well applied to problem areas under primer

Palmer’s night renewal cream: thicker consistency but great as an overnight treatment for the skin

L’Oreal skin perfection: blogger craze, removed makeup really well, stung a little if I got into my eye but did a great job

Simple toner: gentle, smooth, removed oils and dirt

Kleenex shine absorbing sheet: practical, removes oils but doesn’t disturb makeup

Colossal volume mascara: great for a more natural look, adds great volume and decent length

Maybelline gel liner: easy to use, post about it here:

Benefit they’re real: great length and gives amazing lashes but a tough little bugger to get off

Mua eyeshadow, copper colour, long lasting, separates a little but think primer

Miss sporty brown eyeliner: great for a natural look, would be good for summer

Eyeko eyelash curler: gives a great curl, I LOVE IT!

Angled eyeliner brush: has made my life 10x easier, post here:

Model and co black eyeliner: works well, doesn’t last all day but does the job, cult classic

Victoria’s secret mango temptation: sweet but not sickly, lasts all day, a little on the pricy side but a must have

Parade perfume: sweet but not sickly, scent lingers and nice in the morning

Argan oil heat defence spray: reduced amount of split ends, kind to hair

Argan oil hair treatment: leaves hair shiny, soft, smooth, silky, nourishing, repairs hair

Vo5 ultimate hold hairspray: lasts all day, holds a curl, weather resistant

Acetone free remover: gentle on nails, not potent smell, healthier nails

Coco butter hand cream: thicker consistency but does the job

Inecto coconut hand and nail cream: nourishing does the jobs, smells great and I MUST GET MORE

Barry M in Mushroom: great for colder months and really natural looking

Miss sporty gold glitter: nice decal/ring finger design but annoying to take off

Company coral polish: really nice colour (must find a similar one) but chips easily and doesn’t last long but I love the colour

NYC Spring Street: gorgeous bold colour last just over a week with only tiny chips, vibrant too

Carex hand gel: east to use pump, smells nice and I have clean hands

Whoa we are finally at the end. I hope that was short and sweet enough for you guys yet enough detail about the products.

Here are some links to some of the products mentioned featured in this blog post if you are interested J

Meltproof Makeup + Vacation Glow | Holy Chic

You know what guys, Olaf was right!

But then as he goes on to say, just not today J so why let the scorching sun melt away your makeup?

Today as another instalment of #BeautyDaysOfSummer, I am going to share with you my tips on keeping your makeup in place all day as the temperature is starting to rise. So, let’s go J

Okay to begin, Primer . Apply a pea sized amount to moisturised skin and this will stop your makeup from slipping all over your face. Next, invest in a dense Concealer . This will help cover up dark circles and give and even skin tone for skin whilst being light on the face. Next, you can cover up but with a silicone based Foundation. Because it is a lightweight formula, it will act as a film between your skin and the humidity, preventing foundation from seeping into your pores or dribbling down your chin. To help apply this, use a damp Makeup Sponge. This will allow your foundation to go on lighter and sheerer. Cream Eyeshadow it out because it will crease less on your eyelids and don't smudge as much. Next, opt for a liquid Eyeliner which might take a bit more time and mastering and time to do but it wont budge in the heat like kohl eyeliner will do. Waterproof Mascara is a no brainer pretty much. Need I say anymore? Next, try a Cream Blush which will last longer on the cheeks but give the same effect as a powder blush. Next, avoid the oily face. One you could use a mattifying pressed Powder or you could use Oil absorbing sheets to remove excess oils and dirt from your face whilst keeping your makeup intact. And finally a Tinted lip balm . This will add some colour to your lips for the summer time whilst keeping them moisturised and hydrated.

So I hope you found these tips helpful and may apply them to your summer routine.

But wait, there is more. Seeing as I didn’t upload last week’s instalment, here it is J enjoy J

Vacation Glow | Holy Chic

It’s time for another #BeautyDaysOfSummer post. Sorry it is a little late today but these things happen J I guess you could say this post required a little more research than most.

Tanning isn’t just about achieving the perfect bronzed glow – well it is – but it is also about maintain it . So this is where I share some tips with you to maintain the natural sun kissed glow

First up, the In shower body moisturiser. This will help maintain moisture in your skin as tanning can really dry it out. As well as keeping you clean, it will cut out the middle man of having to moisturise. The Nivea in shower body moisturiser seems to be at the top of the list J

Next, you should always use After sun. People always think this is just for if you have burnt your skin but it can actually help maintain your tan for a lot longer. I picked out the moisturising after sun

Next, try Exfoliating before you go tanning. This will remove all of the dead skin cells on your body and allow you to be able to tan evenly over your body. My all time favourite is the palmer’s cocoa butter scrub because it smells good, lathers well in to the skin and is moisturising

Alternatively you could try a Gradual tanning lotion/tanning oils. This could help speed up the tanning process as well as enhance your natural tan. The piz buin and dove summer glow again seem to be at the top of the list for this J

And finally, Stay hydrated! No water, no sunkissed glow. Not totally true but marinating the tan requires hydration. Any water will do J

But guys always stay protected and wear sun screen, tan, don’t burn please J Nivea works well for that too

So there you have it, my tips for maintaining that vacation glow. I hope you liked it and share some of your tanning secrets in the comments below

The 3 minutes, 3 step eye look | Holy Chic

Every morning I am just not in the mood for a full on eye makeup look mostly because I find it very hard to function at seven o’clock in the morning. So I have narrowed my make time to three steps that takes me just under three minutes giving me more time to fully wake up in the morning.

Gel liner and angled eyeliner brush: I have a post all about these two called The Dream Team if you would like a more in depth review on this but these two together make it so much easier to apply liner and quickly.

Eyeko eyelash curler: who knew that these could make such a difference? I have always ignored these because I have pretty curly lashes to begin with so I have always ignored them but recently, I have loved them and I notice such a difference in my lashes.

Maybelline colossal volume express mascara: this mascara has been on and off of my blog for quite some time now but I have been loving it again and it gives my lashes some really decent length as well as lots of volume. It has been working really well for m when I don't want a dramatic makeup look or a more natural look.

What are some of your time saver makeup tips?

The Dream Team | Holy Chic

I have made a discovery that has become a major asset to my life. Did it exist before? Yes. Did it take me a really long time to finally purchase one? Yes.

Today I am going to share with you the reason why I have fallen back in love with my Maybelline Eye studio Gel Eyeliner ,THE ANGLED EYELINER BRUSH.

I know nothing amazing but it is no longer neglected and I just feel that these two combined are just a great ‘dream team’ and really help make applying makeup in the morning a lot easier.

I feel I have more control and precision, I feel I can get that much closer to the lash line with it and create more of a variety with my eyeliner looks

So have you discovered anything yet making your life 10x easier?

Angled brush: (this is not the one I have as I got mine from a local shop but the same thing here)
